Here I feel I should confess:

I hate history.

As a subject at school, I preferred geography - but I didn't want to choose it as an option for my GCSE's, as I really couldn't stand the teacher... so I had to do history instead, as the only alternative.

My memory just isn't good enough to study history as a subject. I'm terrible at remembering dates, names, and places, especially when I'm really not interested in the subject anyway. My brain just doesn't want to know.

In 2022, if you'd asked me anything about when King Henry II tried to invade Wales, I'd have looked at you blankly. Now, I can give you a brief summary of what happened thanks to repeated retellings of it at Chirk Castle - an annual event I really enjoy, at a lovely venue - but I still couldn't recount the tale in any detail (this is partly due to my involvement not really being anything to do with the event being reenacted).

So where am I going with this? - I simply thought it worth mentioning, that while history is most definitely not my subject, there are many other interesting things I've discovered during my time with the reenactment group, and I've met many lovely people too, not to mention visited many fascinating and beautiful places around the UK.
