A big part of reenactment is the accommodation, or rather, the lack of it. I had never slept in a tent, let alone erected one, used a camp stove, a lantern or any of the other equipment I was suddenly expected to live with for a few days.

As a child, I had been in countless static caravans and had very pleasant memories of spending a week at a time on a riverboat on the Norfolk Broads. Learning to camp was a challenge that just added to my memory problems!

I will say that some of the events I've been to with the group, have been in some exceptionally beautiful places. The views from within the grounds of Chirk Castle, a venue I already loved, kept me going that weekend when on the inside I felt like I would never manage to learn everything I needed to know to join in with this hobby.

I have always been a fairweather outdoor girl ... and I'm afraid this hasn't changed! One thing has helped immensely with that, though, is the costumes reenactors wear. I'll explain more in another post 🙂
